It is hand-carved from basswood (a very carveable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand-feathered to show detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass, feet are metal and base is wood. It measures 5.5 inches high with an overall height of 8 inches. To purchase, visit www.woodcarvedbirds.com.
Secretary birds need your assistance - Africa Geographic
The secretary bird is the only bird of prey who does more walking than flying, up to 20 miles a day. With very large, broad wings, secretary birds are also strong fliers and use thermal air currents to rise and soar. When hunting, they stamp on the ground to flush out small animals, then run in a zigzag pattern, flapping their wings to confuse their prey. Endemic to Africa, it is usually found in the open grasslands and savannah of the sub-Sahara [ WoodCarvedBirds.com ]
