In praise of … charging for plastic bags
New York City is the latest to propose a small fee - 10 cents - on customers asking for plastic carrier bags instead of bringing their own. Washington DC & Portland Oregon have been successful with their bans. Other countries to have introduced bans on single-use plastic bags include South Africa, Kenya, Uganda and China.
