Spring Chalk Flowers | Elementary Art Lesson
Here is one of my most popular lessons, spring Chalk Flowers (with the kids!) that uses two techniques: Pencil, white school glue & black paper for older kids ages 9-12 Black oil pastels on black paper for younger kids 5-8 Sometimes using the right art technique can make or break a project depending on the kids age group. Older kids can manage the handling of the glue better than younger kids.

Happy Butterflies | Spring First Grade Art Lesson
I love happy art lessons. The ones that engage children right from the get-go. These painted paper butterflies are a perennial favorite in my art room. My first graders make painted paper and then use the paper to create butterfly wings.

Spring Watercolor Flower | First Grade Art Lesson
This lesson is equal parts process and product, making it the perfect lesson for first graders who love exploration but also appreciate a finished project. Based on the groundbreaking abstract expressionist and color field painter, Helen Frankenthaler, students will explore multiple watercolor techniques to create the beautiful painted paper, learning about warm and cool colors along the way. They will then collage their painted paper flowers together to create a gorgeous bouquet!
Mother's Day Watercolor Bouquets
Learning how to draw flowers is a must in any art room. To make the lesson easy for a younger child, it helps to start with some type of template. Don’t feel like you’re cheating. My philosophy with templates is that sometimes they help a child get through a part they may find a bit boring (drawing yet another flower) to the fun part: watercolor resist.

Just Add Glitter Bird | First Grade Art Project
The lovely Angela DiTerlizzi mailed me a copy of Just Add Glitter for obvious reasons. While I haven’t met her in-person, we are clearly kindred spirits. I will also go out on a limb and proclaim illustrator Samantha Cotterhill of equal kinship. This book is a gem. Made for anyone who feels certain that a little sparkle can add heaps of joy to your day. And it did for me (added a lovely does of joy to an otherwise drab day). I created this very simple art project for you to do as you enjoy this sweet book.

O'Keeffe Inspired Graphic Flowers | 6th Grade Art Lesson
This Georgia O’Keeffe inspired art lesson is quick, easy lesson that all grade levels will enjoy. Needing a one-lesson project for the end of my sixth grade art rotation, I was inspired by an O’Keeffe art print on my wall. But instead of focusing on the center of a flower and creating a detailed drawing, I thought it might be fun to jazz up Georgia with some graphic qualities!
Watercolor Resist Sunflowers First Grade Art Lesson | Deep Space Sparkle
Flowers offer the opportunity to explore a wide color palette and endless shape possibilities, making them the perfect subject matter for the end of the year. Using liquid watercolor will make quick work of covering the large paper with vibrant color and easily allows for the magic of watercolor resist, which will analyze your first grade students.

Spring Bunny Easter Art Lesson | Deep Space Sparkle
When I was a young artist, my favorite art activity was drawing fashion figures with a water-soluble black marker. Brushing the artwork with water turned the drawing into a painting. I discovered this technique quite by accident, and have been using it ever since. Using markers in the classroom is popular for many art teachers who gravitate to a low-prep project. This is one of them but the results are as unique and exciting as each of your students.
