The Ultimate Guide to the Canal du Midi
The Canal du Midi has changed little in its 300 years. Lock gates are now steel rather than timber, an aqueduct was built to create a waterway over the River Orb in the 19th century and a short-lived water slope was built at Béziers to allow boats to avoid the six-rise flight of locks. In 1996 the canal was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO.

Cruising the World, From Gondolas to Megaships: European Waterways La Belle Epoque – All Things Cruise
This is my first posting of an outtake photo for the Cruising Photo of the Week. This is one. La Belle Epoque is a luxury European Waterways barge on the Burgundy Canal, shown here cruising past a small French village in early spring.
