The traditional and famous Finnish cinnamon pastries called Korvapuusti (literally: slap/cuff on the ear) are the perfect treat for young and old alike. When temperatures drop in autumn it’s the time of the year when the Nordic streets are filled with the sweet smell of cardamom and cinnamon. Go and enjoy a Pullakahvit – the Finnish word for a coffee being enjoyed with a cinnamon pastry!

The ashen chanterelle is certainly one of the most inconspicuous mushrooms, and many people who collect black trumpets (C. cornucopioides) may have consumed some without knowing it. At first glance, these two species really do look confusingly similar. However, a closer look reveals an important difference: Ashen chanterelle have gills – black trumpets do not!

The peeled and mostly very smooth pieces of beaver chewed wood have always attracted me aesthetically. Not long ago, we were in need for a new loft bed for our daughter. Somehow I had the urge to use some of the wild wood in one of my projects. Without further ado we decided to collaborate with these elegant craftsmen. The idea was to make some elements of the bed from trunks and branches that had already been pre-cut and gnawed by a beaver.

Coltsfoot with its striking yellow flower is one of the first flowering plants to be seen after winter. In some places you can find coltsfoot as early as February. This plant is best known for its medicinal properties and has a long tradition in folk medicine – especially its soothing effects on coughs. Tea or syrup is usually made from the flowers but some parts, as leaves are also edible and used in the kitchen.

The annual world cod championship also takes place in Lofoten with regular catches fo 30 kg+ specimen. However, these fish are almost always caught from boats. In addition, there are also excellent places for shore fishing in Lofoten that are accessible to everyone.

Similar to Finland there are thousands of shelters for the public to access. Usually you will also find an open fireplace and in many cases also firewood. Shelters in Sweden are basically divided in two main categories, vindskydd and raststugor.
