John - I have always been fascinated by the owls. This is a barred owl. The other morning I was up early driving down the driveway and one was sitting on a fence post. I was able to roll the window down and it looked at me from less than 6 feet. In the evenings at particular times I can hear them calling from back in our woods. I have worked on my owl calling skills or hooting, so that I have been able to call them in close to investigate. What an amazing feeling when they fly over at dusk or at night, the sound of their wings and the glimpse of these special birds.
