Thanks ClayKing 👑@claykingceramics 👑for sponsoring this post! The tools used are, speedball bats , Mayco underglaze and sodium silicate from CLAY KING Use Code👑👑 “quirky” 👑👑to save $5 on $50 and $10 on $100 How to - The crackle texture! 💬 Thick cylinder is important for this technique or it will collapse later when you try to expand 💬 We could also do this without using an underglaze and fire it with a glaze that shows textures 💬 Sodium silicate has to be dry before expanding and thick coats provide good cracks Hope you find this useful. Jackie Wright Ceramics on Instagram: "How I make black porcelain. A regular question that I get.

Key things to note:

- I use bone dry clay trimmings/reject pots
- I weigh the dry clay and add 5% black stain
- I eyeball it with the water (sorry!)
- I leave to slake for a few days before mixing.

I fire lower than I would with white porcelain as some of the oxides in the stain act as a flux to reduce the temperature at which the clay matures. For white I fire cone 9-10 and cone 7 for the black.

Hope it’s useful x
