This old map of "the Antarctic Regions" was originally published in Edward Stanford's 1904 world atlas - one of the finest world atlases ever created.The map was first issued in 1887 with red lines and points showing the extent of humankind's exploration of antarctica. The map was then reissued every couple of years with our latest explorations marked on the map. You can clearly see how each nation was vying to reach the South Pole first.
