I first became aware of my tight hamstrings when I was diagnosed with "pes anserine" bursitis (knee bursitis) in 2009.  I'll be honest...I didn't stretch my hamstrings routinely 🙈  In March 2021, following my mensical tear, my hamstrings became super tight (the flashback video was ~Nov 2021), I had chronic lower back tightness, and my body felt unbalanced & asymmetric.  This simple routine helped me gain hamstring flexibility:  Warm up: Ostrich walks (x 5 reps/leg)  3 Sets of:  1️⃣ Dynamic calf raises (x 5 reps) - can progress to single leg - can progress even more to single leg holding a weight  2️⃣ Single leg Good Hamstring Stretches Increase Flexibility, Knee Bursitis, Stretches For Tight Hamstrings, Best Hamstring Stretches, Stretches To Increase Flexibility, Bursitis Knee, Hamstring Flexibility, Hip Flexor Exercises, Simple Routine

Don’t Do this - Ballistic Toe Touch Hamstring Stretch

Do this active stretch instead.

This active stretch I’m about to teach you targets hamstring muscles shown here.

Keep your knee slightly bent to reduce the tension in your sciatic nerve.

Hinge just at your hips until in a maximal stretch.

Contract your stretched out hamstring muscles by driving your heel downward.

Think about trying to actively bend your knee.

Once you hold this stretched out contraction, relax and then get deeper into the stretch.

Perform the stretched out contraction and hold. You are now performing an active hamstring stretch. 

You can vary the intensity that you contract your stretched out hamstring muscles while in the stretch.
