Dryads, also known as the Ent-wives or Tavaro and Tavaron in Elvish, were a race of beautiful plantlike maidens, created by Yavanna to act as the protectors of trees and other flora, in particular flowers. While they once lived all over Arda, they had removed enmasse from the company of the Ents in the Second Age to live in Taur Anèdas. They appear to be beautiful women with delicate features seemingly made of soft wood. Their hair appears to be made of leaves and foliage that changes color…

Dryad - is a tree nymph, or female tree spirit, in Greek mythology. In Greek drys signifies "oak." Thus, dryads are specifically the nymphs of oak trees, though the term has come to be used for all tree nymphs in general. They were normally considered to be very shy creatures, except around the goddess Artemis, who was known to be a friend to most nymphs.
