An easy way to teach students to write summaries.
We've done a lot in the past three days. I'll do my best to keep you all caught up! I've been having some issues with my computer so it was a little bit of a struggle to blog this week. Summarizing nonfiction text teaches them to determine the most important ideas in a text, ignore unimportant information & connect the main idea & key details of a text in a logical way. It also helps improve memory & comprehension of a text. Students will learn the main idea, important or key details, follow the text structure & putting it all together. (3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th grade)
Year after year my students struggled with summaries, and then I started using this method for teaching summary writing. Eureka! I will never again teach this skill without this summary anchor chart.
