Ancient prosthetic eye from Iran: On the side of the eye drilled small holes through which you can drag the thread and hook them into an empty eye socket. A detailed study of the eye showed strong signs of wear indicating frequent use. This probably caused an abscess on the eyelid. The owner was a young woman, between 25 and 30 years old, and the cause of her death is not known. She lived between 2900 and 2800 BC .

Cyclopia (also cyclocephaly or synophthalmia) is a rare form of holoprosencephaly and is a congenital disorder (birth defect) characterized by the failure of the embryonic prosencephalon to properly divide the orbits of the eye into two cavities. Its incidence is 1 in 16,000 in born animals, and 1 in 250 in embryos, one in 2,500 that end in miscarriage.

Minamata disease - Wikipedia
Minamata disease is a neurological syndrome caused by severe mercury poisoning. Symptoms include ataxia, numbness in the hands and feet, general muscle weakness, narrowing of the field of vision, and damage to hearing and speech. In extreme cases, insanity, paralysis, coma, and death follow within weeks of the onset of symptoms. A congenital form of the disease can also affect foetuses in the womb.

MOEBIUS SYNDROME Annually, some 300 children in Europe are found to have Moebius Syndrome, a rare disease characterized by the lack of developed facial nerves as well as the subsequent lack of facial expressions. The main cause is totally unknown to medical researchers, however the effects are serious. Individuals with Moebius Syndrome are often seen sleeping with their eyes open. Additionally they cannot smile, frown, move their eyes in a lateral direction, or even control their blinking.
