Sarah Rose | Gardening & Landscape Architecture on Instagram: "Fun fact, “Album”/“Alba” means white. As well as these plants, I’ve saved/moved others from around the garden and put them here: Begonia Bluebells Forget-me-nots A hosta St John’s Wart A rhubarb plant Other hardy geraniums I think I have a bit of a thing for hardy geraniums and for pink flowers, I guess, based on what I’ve picked! Would it be useful to show how I made a planting plan? Photos (and plants) from @jparkersbulbs and @farmergracy #gardenplants #plantingplan #shadegarden #gardenproject #flowerborder"
Jess Zander, The Garden Coach🌺 on Instagram: "Most people remove all that great organic matter each fall or spring and don’t replenish it. While you can’t know exactly what’s going on with soil quality without a soil test, you have to assume it lacks nutrients if you routinely remove everything. Having said that, if your plants are doing well, there may not be a need to do anything differently. Unless you have a thick layer of leaves, you can put the compost right down on top. Most garden centers and nurseries carry it and you can get deliveries by the yard or you can get it with your own truck if you have one. If you only need a little, get a few bags. Some municipal trash centers offer compost for free. As I mentioned in a recent post about this, I don’t trust it. People toss things l

Pollyanna Wilkinson on Instagram: "Hydrangea pruning: Lacecaps and Mopheads. These are treated very differently to arborescens or paniculata as they flower on old wood. First up, remove one or two of the oldest stems from the base, or if it hasn't been pruned in a long time and it's really congested as shown here, remove up to 30% of the old wood to the base. Remove dead, diseased and damaged stems also. Finally, prune all dead flowerheads back to the first strong pair of buds back from the flower head. You should be left with a nice open goblet shape. Questions? Pop them below. ✂️"
Nicole Johnsey Burke on Instagram: "You’re NOT bad at gardening, you just haven’t found your match yet🤷‍♀️ Success in the garden is less about being born with a green thumb and more about matching your resources to your plant’s needs. 🌱Small spaces are perfect for herbs and salad 🥕Medium-size spots are great for root crops 🍉And bigger sunny spots are just right for growing fruit crops like tomatoes, cucumbers, and melons Once you figure out how to match your space to your plants needs, gardening gets SOOO much easier. Laura Lombardi | Weekend Gardener on Instagram: "Skimmia a great choice if you have a full shade spot and want an evergreen shrub. 🌸I have the “limelight” Skimmia which blooms with lime green flowers that turn white in the Spring. ❗️BUT, remember: there’s no perfect plant. Here’s a little bit more about it ⬇️ ✅Great for zones 6-9. ✅Can handle some dryness, but will need to be kept moist in its early years. ✅ Hardly needs much care with minimal pruning and no fertilizing required. ✅ Most varieties get between 3-5 ft tall and wide being a great choice for the back of the garden without getting out of control. Important to know ⬇️ ❗️They’re slow growers. It’ll take a few years to get to its mature height so patience is key. ❗️This plant is considered toxic so not a great choice

Erin Berkyto | 🪴Garden Fresh Inspiration🪴 on Instagram: "I loved my first one so much that I added a second… ♻️DIY In-Ground Composter!♻️ It’s perfect for small spaces, raised beds & regenerative gardening 🌱 I made this in-ground composter using a thrifted stainless steel colander and lid—and it’s been a total game-changer for keeping food scraps out of the landfill and feeding my soil right where I grow. How it works: The holes in the colander let worms and microbes move in and out, naturally breaking down organic matter. It’s composting right at the root zone! Installation Steps: ♻️Thrift or repurpose a colander with large drainage holes ♻️Find a lid that fits (metal is ideal to keep pests out) ♻️Dig a hole in your raised bed and place the colander inside—up to the rim ♻️Fill
