Author Clair Bee was a former basketball coach who fashioned his protagonist Chip Hilton as master of almost all sports -- soccer and hockey never made the cut, apparently. He has teammate pals with names like Fireball, Soapy, and Biggie, and sometimes dates a young woman named Mitzi. Chip's adventures were reprinted in the 21st Century, but these are the original books and therefore he doesn't read Sports Illustrated or watch ESPN. He just plays sports and relates to other human beings. In this book, Chip's playing baseball as a catcher. But when he finds himself on the pitcher's mound and with a surprise in him that even the coach doesn't expect. Can you guess what it is? It's baseball, come on, what would be excellent for a pitcher to do? This copy is in very good condition with some signs of age. The dust jacket has some wear and tear.
