C.S. Lewis Biography Book Heroes for Young Readers
If you’re familiar with the Christian Heroes series, you may have already seen these gems! They offer a hardback series of books called Heroes for Young Readers. These books read like poetry – wonderful rhyming that tells the story of each hero’s life. If you’re struggling to access any these titles, I have had a lot of success finding these kinds of books second-hand.
Little House on the Prairie Books
Learning about the life of Laura Ingalls Wilder has been a really special part of our family’s homeschooling experience, and together, we have enjoyed several different Little House on the Prairie books. Over the years, we have enjoyed watching the Little House on the Prairie television series, but we’ve also built a sweet Little House book collection as well.
Learning about Horses: Non-Fiction Books for Kids
The local library can be a great place to find non-fiction books about horses as well as picture books about horses – short stories you may not necessarily want to buy but you would enjoy reading with your kids. Of course we’ve found great picture books second-hand - consignment shops, yard sales, etc. but the library can be a great option!
Homeschool: Writing Practice Activity Using Shaving Cream
How to Set Up this Fun Sensory Activity To get started, I recommend a clear desk or table space for “writing”. In a school setting, desk spaces worked great – and some teachers claim that the shaving cream actually cleans the desks. I’ve not dug into that science to see if it’s true, but hey, maybe it is. Maybe you’d prefer to have a way to contain the shaving cream. I totally understand! When using this activity in our homeschool, I’ve used always used a tray of some sort for this activity. This colorful tray is one I found several years ago at Home Goods, but we’ve also used these IKEA trays on repeat for lots of different activities. They’re durable and inexpensive and make for easy clean-up every time. Truly perfect to use for sensory trays.
Writing First-Grade Spelling Words with Water
WRITING WITH WATER: Over the years, we have continued using this activity in different ways. Kids can practice writing: -the letters of the alphabet – manuscript and cursive -small and large numbers – Don’t forget about numbers with decimals. -name writing -important addresses and phone number(s) -sight words -spelling words -vocabulary terms -Latin/Greek Roots -math problems (Solving made fun!) and more.
When to Use Busy Bin Activity Boxes
Busy Bin Activity Boxes: Are young siblings a part of your family’s homeschool day? One of the benefits of homeschooling is that the family can be together, so instead of shooing younger children away, give them their own “school work” in a busy box! Need concentrated time to work with your younger children? Your older children might enjoy some busy box activities of their own. https://www.thislittlehomeofmine.com/busy-bin-activity-boxes/

C.S. Lewis Books and Toys for Kids
If you’re familiar with the Christian Heroes series, you may have already seen these gems! They offer a hardback series of books called Heroes for Young Readers. These books read like poetry – wonderful rhyming that tells the story of each hero’s life. Then they have put together softback biographies for more advanced readers. These use a longer chapter-book style format to introduce the reader to each person included in the series.
Teaching Kids to Write Thank You Notes
Teaching kids to write thank you notes seems to be a thing of the past, but I think we should bring back this long-standing tradition! It’s so important we raise children that know how to express gratitude in a meaningful way, and writing thank you notes is a great way for them to practice that life skill.
